Dr. Hartmut Brandt (Professor for ship hydromechanic) former head of the „Institute for Shipping and Marine Research” at the TU Berlin comments:

„It is surely no secret that the surface of a propeller z-drive and the hull of a ship should be as smooth as possible to reduce friction. In terms of hydraulic smooth surfaces it is possible to calculate exactly the part of resistance. Extreme conditions have to be considered when algae and coquina are involved. During a boat mooring time 90% is unused and therefore the ideal place for algae and coquina to settle. It is a fact that a propeller with residue can‘t reach the desired performance level which in term leads to high fuel consumtion."
